Dance Across Cultures with Kay

Lebo and Kay had a conversation about Kay's journey as a South African dancer and event organiser in China. Kay explained that he moved to China in 2019 as an English teacher and later transitioned to full-time dance teaching and events, promoting Amapiano culture. He discussed the challenges and rewards of introducing South African dance and music to Chinese audiences, emphasising the importance of embodying the essence of the dance rather than just the moves. Kay shared highlights of his career, including events in Shanghai, collaborations with local and international artists, and tours across Southeast Asia. He reflected on his personal growth and the opportunities living in China has provided, while also acknowledging the challenges of being away from home. Kay offered advice to young creatives, stressing the importance of patience, hard work, consistency, and having a clear "why" for their passion. The conversation also touched on the vibrant South African community in China and the mutual support within it.
