This documentary explores the history of the Maratha Empire and its conflict with the Mughal Empire, shedding light on the complex and fascinating story of Shivaji vs Mughals. By examining the Maratha vs Mughal wars, we can gain a deeper understanding of the Deccan history and the rise of the Maratha Empire. The legacy of Shivaji Maharaj and the Maratha Empire continues to be felt in Indian history, and their challenge to the Mughal Empire remains an important part of the country's heritage.
In the 17th century, the Mughal Empire was one of the most powerful empires in the world.
Its armies were enormous. Its treasury was vast. And its influence stretched across much of the Indian subcontinent.
Then, in the rugged mountains of the Deccan, a new power began to rise.
His name was Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Starting with a small number of forts and a vision of Hindavi Swarajya, Shivaji built a powerful kingdom that would eventually challenge the mighty Mughal Empire.
But how did a relatively small kingdom survive against one of the largest empires of its time?
In this cinematic historical documentary, we follow the incredible rise of Shivaji Maharaj and the Maratha power.
From the capture of Torna Fort and the confrontation with Afzal Khan, to the raid on Surat and the daring attack on Shaista Khan, Shivaji repeatedly demonstrated how speed, strategy, intelligence, and knowledge of the terrain could defeat a much larger force.
We also explore the Treaty of Purandar, Shivaji's dramatic encounter with Aurangzeb at Agra, and his legendary escape from Mughal captivity.
In 1674, Shivaji Maharaj was crowned Chhatrapati at Raigad, transforming his vision of Hindavi Swarajya into an established kingdom.
But the struggle did not end with Shivaji's death.
Aurangzeb personally entered the Deccan and spent the final decades of his life fighting the Marathas. The conflict drained Mughal resources and became one of the longest struggles of the empire's history.
After Aurangzeb's death in 1707, the Maratha Empire continued to expand under the Peshwas, eventually becoming one of the dominant powers in India and reaching deep into northern India.
This is the story of Shivaji Maharaj, the rise of the Maratha Empire, Aurangzeb's Deccan campaign, and the long struggle between the Marathas and the Mughals.
A story about strategy.
A story about resistance.
And a story about how one rising power changed the course of Indian history.
