“Rush” began with a piano melody I wrote when I was 14 years old. For years, it existed simply as that melody.
More recently, as I’ve been taking classes in songwriting and music composition, I’ve started learning how to develop those early musical ideas into fuller arrangements. Using my original piano recording as the foundation, I used AI-assisted tools to experiment with structure, instrumentation, and production until I found the sound that felt right for this melody.
I wrote the lyrics for “Rush” as a present-day interpretation of what it feels like to have a crush on someone—the racing heart, the heightened awareness, and the way your imagination can take a single glance or moment and turn it into something much bigger. It was suggested as a song topic in my class.
The production was designed around that feeling. The deep bass represents the heartbeat underneath the attraction, while the higher, ethereal vocal moments create the sensation of being lifted to the edge, falling, and then being caught.
For a moment, the two people seem completely connected—their heartbeats and breathing falling into rhythm as the rest of the world disappears. But the ending brings the listener back to reality. The connection existed in the narrator’s imagination; they never actually knew what the other person felt.
Maybe that uncertainty is part of what gives a crush its rush.
This song is still part of my learning process. As I gain more experience with songwriting, arranging, and production, I plan to continue refining it and eventually submit it to an AI-assisted songwriting competition that highlights human authorship and creative direction. For me, that is the most interesting part of working with these tools: seeing how far a human idea can be developed when AI is used to support the process rather than replace it.

Some melodies just need a little time—and the right tools—to finally become what you imagined they could be.
