What began as an attempt to find another way around Maliketh had pulled him deeper into Ranni's path. He had already learned that the Lands Between were far larger and stranger than he once understood. Now, Ranni's journey was beginning to reveal just how much he had never known. Following the path before him eventually brought Zidus to a tower and the remains of Ranni's former body. He discovered the Cursemark of Death upon the corpse. Whatever happened on that fateful night of the Black Knives was clearly part of something larger than Zidus understood. The woman he agreed to serve was becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend. Somehow, this no longer pushed him away, but drew him in. Zidus had once believed certainty came from following the path laid before him. Now, he was willing to walk with uncertainty because he wanted to understand where it led.
