However, when he returned, the girl was gone, yet the food he had given her was gleaming like gold. The farmer came to believe that the girl was none other than the Goddess Bhadrakali herself. It is said that the popular belief surrounding this incident further enhanced the Goddess's renown and popularized the name "Lumadi Ajima." Historically, this temple—located near Sahid Gate on the eastern side of Tundikhel—is also known as Shri Lumadi Bhadrakali. Records indicate that the temple was constructed in 1817. In Hindu tradition, Goddess Bhadrakali is worshipped as a deity embodying power and courage, and as a destroyer of evil forces. Large crowds of devotees flock to the temple during the festivals of Dashain and Navaratri.
