'Only some sounds in the wind' (2024) composed by Eva-Maria Houben @evamariahouben5243 world premiere performance, 12 February 2026, Tokyo Concerts Lab Kyohei Sugihara, percussion @kyoheisugihara4612 Programme Note This piece is dedicated to Kyohei Sugihara, a very good friend. I often compose especially for friends – imagining them as players while composing. The piece shows different durations of sounds: appearance and disappearance of sounds become very important. “only some sounds in the wind” made itself as a piece without specific beginning and without conclusion. A mere endless stream of sounds allows all kinds of sounds to emerge: each tone is welcome! Thus, we can imagine a repeal of time and a coincidence of opposites. The piece reflects a certain situation, more than distinct characteristics of a “piece”. This situation may have the energy to invite possibilities. Performers as well as listeners may find themselves in a very open space where nearly everything is possible: paradise opens its fences. As a composer I did not want to create a “piece” but to open a space, to evoke a specific situation: to move, to breathe, to enter relationships, to come into touch with each other. I am happy if this piece inspires all participants to wonder – to listen and to watch with amazement: Ideas, visions and dreams may emerge and point out into everyday life. ———Eva-Maria Houben
