Faxian – A 15-Year Journey to India in Search of the Dhamma | Episode 6 In Episode 6, Faxian continues his remarkable journey through the sacred Buddhist lands of ancient India. In this episode, we explore Kushinagar, Vaishali and Pataliputra — places deeply connected with the history and traditions of Buddhism. At Kushinagar, Faxian encountered the sacred traditions associated with the Buddha’s Mahaparinirvana. At Vaishali, he recorded important Buddhist sites and traditions connected with the Buddha. He then travelled towards Pataliputra, one of the great cities of ancient Magadha, where he observed Buddhist communities and searched for important Buddhist disciplinary texts, especially the Vinaya. Faxian’s journey was not simply a long-distance pilgrimage. His purpose was to preserve and bring back Buddhist teachings and monastic discipline that were difficult to find in China at that time.
