Reuben James Kenny Rogers covered by Troubadour Jam

I was seven, maybe younger, squashed in the back seat of our HQ Holden with my three siblings, driving up the coast from Invercargill to a bach in Kaikoura — stops in Green Island, Dunedin, and Christchurch along the way. Somewhere on that trip Dad turned up the cassette deck and played Kenny Rogers so many times that all four of us learned every word without ever meaning to. Back then it was just melody — singing at the top of our lungs, sand and sun and two weeks in jandals. It's only picking the song back up now, years later, that I've actually sat with what it's carrying. This is that song, and that story. If you've followed along on this channel before, you'll know this is what tends to happen — I pick up a song, and it hands me back a memory I didn't know I still had. 🎸 Troubadour Jam — one song, one story, every episode. #KennyRogers #ReubenJames #CoverSong #Songwriting #Storytelling #NewZealandMusician #Troubadour Jam
