On the evening of 4 December 1957, a packed commuter train stopped at a red signal beneath a bridge in south-east London was struck from behind by another train, its driver having passed two warning signals in dense fog. Moments later the bridge above the wreckage came down. Ninety people lost their lives that night, and 173 more were injured — in a disaster that safety equipment, already agreed and budgeted five years earlier, could have prevented. This documentary traces the ordinary evening that became one of Britain's worst rail disasters: the commuters who boarded expecting nothing more than the journey home, the fog that quietly disrupted a whole network's timetable, the collision and collapse at Parks Bridge Junction, and the desperate rescue carried out by emergency crews and local residents alike.
