You could talk about God for twenty minutes right now without notes. You know He is holy, sovereign, loving, everywhere at once — and every word of it is true. Now answer a different question, and answer it honestly. Have you ever met Him? Not read about Him. Not agreed about Him. Met Him.
In this message we explore the teachings of A.W. Tozer on the difference between the God in your head and the God who actually is. Most of us have spent our entire Christian lives accumulating accurate information about Someone we have never encountered — and the reason your faith feels thin is not that your theology is wrong. It is that you have been having a relationship with a description.
God said it to His own worshipping people, whose attendance was flawless and whose sacrifices never stopped: "Thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself." They had not rejected Him. They had quietly remade Him in their own image, and never noticed the substitution, because the name never changed. And notice what He says He did about it: I kept silence. A man can live for years in that condition with nothing whatsoever to signal it.
⚔️ THE MAP BACK INTO THE ROOM.
Let us be clear: nothing replaces the Word of God. Your Bible is the foundation and the final authority, always, and there is no knowing God apart from it. But you were taught what to believe, and taught well — nobody ever taught you how to seek. So we drew a map.
