Twenty One Pilots Stressed Out | Homesick For The Life We Had | Grammy Member Reacts

Remember when the biggest worry you had was whose house you were cycling round to? Stressed Out is a song about wanting that back — and I felt every word of it. I'm Rachel Walker Mason — BBC-recognised songwriting expert, Grammy voting member and Estill-qualified vocal producer — and this is my first proper listen to twenty one pilots' Stressed Out. I've heard it on adverts for years without knowing who it was, and 3.2 billion views in eleven years tells me I'm probably the last person to get here. But sitting down with it properly, it just captures being a grown-up: the bills, the laundry, the life admin, the constant worry about whether you're doing enough, and that homesick feeling for a time when none of it was yours to carry. None of us really appreciate our childhoods until we're not children anymore. This song knows that, and it manages to be sad and happy at the same time. So with my own kids, I feel like I'm getting a second childhood. I still have to adult sometimes.
