Has your RV or travel trailer side solar port been acting like it's completely dead? Over the summer, I really struggled trying to figure out how mine worked because it definitely isn’t a simple plug-and-play setup.
After a lot of research, I discovered my foldable 200W Renogy solar panel didn't have a built-in charge controller—which was the problem! To fix it, I picked up the Renogy 20-amp Voyager PWM waterproof solar charge controller, along with two new cables to connect into the charge controller.
I also ran into a confusing polarity error message on the controller. It turns out that on the side port of my trailer, the male plug is positive (unlike standard setups where the female side is protected and positive). Once I realized how the cables mated up, everything clicked into place and it's finally working like a charm!
If you’ve been plugging your portable solar panels into your side port and getting zero juice, I hope this video saves you the headache and gets your system up and running off-grid.
