Bridging Our Learning Worlds (BOLW) Ep. 9: It’s Called Advice for a Reason

Have you ever received advice from someone you deeply respect and still wondered whether it was right for you? In Episode 9 of Bridging Our Learning Worlds, I think about advice as a kind of gift: something offered from another person's experiences, values, fears, successes, and understanding of the world. But what happens when that gift enters a different world, your world? Through reflections on mentorship, culture, Ọmọlúwàbí, parenting, and everyday decision-making, I explore the difference between listening and agreeing, between respect and obedience, and between receiving wisdom and giving away our capacity to think. Maybe maturity is not reaching a point where we no longer need advice. Perhaps it is learning to receive advice graciously, question it thoughtfully, and discern carefully.
