Tonbo (とんぼ) - Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi

Title: Tonbo (とんぼ) Artist: Tsuyoshi Nagabuchi Release Date: October 26, 1988 In Japanese culture, dragonflies are deeply tied to late-summer nostalgia and the open countryside. In this song, the "dragonfly of happiness" represents the elusive dreams and freedom that rural migrants chased when moving to Tokyo during Japan's economic bubble era. As the insect floats effortlessly above the cold asphalt—"sticking its tongue out and laughing"—it personifies the city itself: mocking the protagonist’s daily struggles, his crushed honesty, and the painful realization that true happiness remains just out of reach.
