Climb the last slope of the moor at the end of a long day's walk, and settle into a small hollow in the heather with two travelling companions, just as the sun goes down behind the far hills — three hours of medieval fantasy calm for sleep, rest and quiet reading. Great grey boulders mottled with lichen gather around the hollow, and on the right an old rowan tree leans over it, its pale twisting trunk rising into feathery leaves hung with clusters of ripe red berries. The ground is a deep carpet of late-summer heather in full purple flower, with tufts of golden grass catching the last light. Straight ahead, the hollow opens between the stones onto a steep drop and a wide valley far below, where a river curves away between green and golden slopes and shines like a ribbon of gold. Beyond it, ridge after ridge of blue and violet hills fades into the distance. The sun has just slipped behind the farthest hills, and the sky above them glows orange and gold, turning to a clear pale blue overhead, with a few small clouds edged in gold. On the left, the taller traveller has given in to rest: he lies on his side in the heather with his head on his arm, his moss-green hood up and his cloak drawn around him, a plain wooden staff laid in the heather beside him. On the right, his smaller companion sits on a low flat stone patched with lichen, her rust-red hood up and her leather satchel hanging at her side, looking out over the valley with her back to us. Neither of them looks round. He rests; she watches the light go. This is Merrowvale — a bright celtic fantasy realm to wander through, here for 3 hours of calm celtic fantasy music for sleep, rest and quiet reading.
The valley can wait until morning. Let it play while you read a while, while you work quietly, or while you ease down toward sleep.

📍 About this place
The hollow has no name on any map. It lies on the shoulder of the high moor, where the ground falls away toward the valley, and no one has ever built anything there — only the grey boulders, the rowan tree and the heather that covers everything. Travellers crossing the moor know it as a good place to stop at the end of the day: the boulders keep it sheltered, the heather is soft enough to lie down in, and from the flat stone at its edge you can watch the whole valley turn gold before the light is gone.
🎵 The music
Gentle celtic fantasy music for the end of a long day, with a feeling of warmth, shelter and quiet companionship, at an unhurried 54 BPM. In the first ten seconds a softly plucked cittern unfolds one slow descending arpeggio, each rounded note lingering warmly, and a delicate celtic harp answers the phrase. Then warm cello drones hold the ground while the cittern keeps repeating its arpeggios, a tender fiddle draws out long sustained notes, and the harp returns only now and then with sparse replies. The phrasing is supple and spacious, the attacks soft, the upper register mellow and the textures intimate and acoustic, with a spacious reverb and gently shifting modal chords — music for golden evening light over a late-summer heather moor, a sheltered hollow and a day settling at last. Long soothing progressions unfold, rise once into a single gentle swell midway, and close in a hushed, unhurried ending, where the melody gradually settles into a low sustained chord as the sun sinks behind distant hills. Instrumental throughout — 3 full hours of quiet.
