In the spring of 1882, two newspapers in Tombstone, Arizona, put money on the same man. One offered a thousand dollars to anyone who could prove that Curly Bill Brocius was dead. The other offered two thousand to anyone who could prove that he was alive. Wyatt Earp said he had shot him at a desert spring. No coroner ever saw a body. No grave was ever found. Nobody collected either reward.
