On November 11, 2026, Route 66 turns 100. Congress created a commission to celebrate it, gave it no money, and quietly cut the one part of the law meant to keep the road standing. Somewhere outside Chicago, a mile of the original highway hasn’t seen a car since 1998, and in the Mojave, the wood holding it up is giving way. So how long can America’s Mother Road actually survive?
