Cleo Roux — Picked the Lock (Full Album)

Twelve songs, one villain, and a lock she picked herself. Each song takes a part the old stories never offered Cleo Roux: a siren on the rocks, a merchant at the crossroads, a witch on trial at the millpond, a guest left off the christening list, a bride on her seventh wedding, a mirror that starts to lie, a rat-catcher who sends the bill. Every one of them is told from the villain's side. The record opens by asking for the villain's part and closes on its title song, where the heroes are the ones left waiting outside. Play it in order. ▸ TRACKLIST 0:00 Give Me the Villain's Part 3:53 Sing You Down 7:57 Sell Me Your Shadow 11:54 Throw Me in the Millpond 15:14 The Gift You Cannot Give Back 18:30 Till Death Do Us Part 22:13 Come Back on Saturday 26:01 The Fairest of Them All 30:03 I Will Take My Fee 33:45 Tell Me What You See 37:30 Try Them On 40:48 Picked the Lock ▸ THE SONGS ONE BY ONE Every song has its own video, with full lyrics in the pinned comment. By her own account, she played the patient girl for two winters in the cold, learning every line the villain says. In Who Taught Who, her sister sings that she handed Cleo the keys to every locked door, and Cleo answers that she had picked the lock the year before. On this album's title song the keys come back only as something "they say", and her answer has not changed. ▸ ABOUT THE HOUSE OF VELVET NOVA The House of Velvet Nova is a virtual music house: old theatrical forms meeting modern production. ▸ CREDITS Music, vocals and artwork generated with AI tools.
