APPLICATIONS In situ machining is always beneficial wherever dismantling and transporta¬tion of the component in need of repair is difficult or uneconomical. As a consequence of operation under unfavourable conditions, for example with contaminated lubricant oil, wear of crankpin journals or pins can occur. Should one of the wear limits be reached, remachining to the next standard undersize of the respective journals or pin is recommended. If the crankshaft suffers damage, it usually means the engine needs to be extensively dismantled in order to eliminate the problem. Without the in situ machining option, the crankshaft has to be sent off-site for machining, resulting in long delays and multiplied costs. IN SITU MACHINING OPTIONS With our effective range of in situ machining options, the engine can be up and running in the shortest possible time. Our proprietary in situ machining equipment is centred around recovering damaged crankshafts with crankpin diameters between 250 and 600 millimeters. Larger diameters are handled case by case. The quality of a pin or journal after machining reached following requirements. • Geometrical tolerances - in accordance with OEM standards and depending to the pin diameter - varies between 0.02 to 0.05 mm. • Hairline cracks: Color marking test --Free of hairline cracks. • Surface hardness: 250 -- 300 HB SAME RESULT -- LESS TIME The modern and optimized machining equipment developed by TVS Grinding reduce the repair time 40% in comparing with traditional methods, with resulting tolerances well within the limits set by the manufacturer.
