DJ GABBERINA - ELECTRONICA VINYL MIX (VAPORWAVE, AMBIENT + EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC) [PERSONA Q WALKTHRU]

An eclectic two-hour long mix of some of my favorite miscellaneous electronic music records that have no place anywhere else but together; it doesn't make any sense except maybe to those who know a little bit about me. Originally, I thought of going by "DJ Whiplash", and this tracklist is an homage to that. I love the pop-art clash of two iconic records from different subcultures playing at once, the cheeky mash-up attitude of digital DJ'ing applied to analog records, with both classic and ironic sensibilities. In some sense the name "DJ Gabberina" is also a sonic game, as I rarely play actual gabber, subverting the expectation of hardcore Dutch techno with a more "intelligent" treatment, mostly only because few people in Miami are the precise combination of both nerdy and intense needed for a full gabber set ("intelligent" in this case taken directly from that awful term "I.D.M." and therefore surrounded with sarcastic quotes). Of course I reject the notion that "intelligent" dance music is any smarter than the stupid variety: which would be, what, exactly? Gabber? Hyperpop? Hardcore? Dubstep? House? A set taken after Simon Reynold's "Generation Ecstasy" and McKenzie Wark's "Raving", a post-memetic piece of performance art, recorded more for the sake of capturing the state of my collection, my home, my body, moving in this very unstable time and place. Who knows if I will even be in this house come this time next month. Every house on my block is being methodically destroyed from the inside out, especially mine. Someday I will be glad I recorded this version of me. I never regret making things — only not making them. That Skrillex shirt I put on halfway through this set was bought for me by my parents at Sonar Festival in 2012, the daytime portion of which was the first festival I ever went to. I wish I could have seen Skrillex during his prime, being just three years shy of the nighttime 16+ requirement. I should have snuck in. Don't beat yourself up about it though.
