This video covers the preparations for battle seven of our playthrough of WW2 battles in Europa, played in historical order (as best we can). We're reaching the point where there are battles in different places that overlap in time. The Barbarossa campaign on the German east front and the campaign for North Africa are a better example of fighting going on in two theaters at the same time; but the Battle for France or Fall Gelb (Case Yellow) is the same. The German forces were already engaged in Operation Weserübung while the panzer armies were conducting blitzkrieg along the borders of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands between April and June of 1940.
This GDW Europa boxset does not have a GRD Europa upgrade. There was a revised GDW boxset with the grid design that was used in the later years of GDW, but it was not a genuine 'update' like the GDW Narvik vs. GD/R Storm Over Scandinavia was.
In this video, I cover some of the finer points for setup of The Fall of France and The Low Countries using the most up-to-date Order of Battle and optional historical rules found in several of The Europa Magazine articles over the many years Europa was a top selling wargame. Also known as Fall Gelb (or Case Yellow), this will be the beginning of Battle 7 in our playthrough of World War II in historical order. I'm looking forward to this campaign and the next as it leads into GDW Their Finest Hour and the possibility of Operation Sea Lion.
I really hope this entices folks to play more Europa! Many have the games on their shelves, but keep them like a museum piece instead of playing it as it should be.
