Here is this weeks model train review and this one is the Rivarossi CC 72000 that is presented in the SNCF Fret livery. The diesel locomotive here is numbered as CC 472015 and the model train was released back in 2002 and this model was almost mint condition when I bought this model train back in June 2020.
The model train comes with a vast range of detail parts and the model train is DCC ready but it will need some modifications to the circuit board to fit a suitable decoder into the model train. I have covered this more in depth in the review anyway.
The quality is good although patience is required to fit the parts onto the model train and care must be taken to avoid losing anything in the process. Take your time and they should fix onto the model train just fine. Thankfully I have model kit building skills that should be helpful to me for this part.
This model train has all wheel drive and a central can motor with flywheel drive. The locomotive has NEM couplers and directional lighting. This model train was at the time one of the higher end model trains for features and quality and it is still a great model train even by todays standards. Although you can now buy these models cheaper now than back in 2002 and these models are Made in Italy and was the case until Hornby bought Jouef, Lima and Rivarossi in 2004 and moved production to China in 2005.
The performance test demonstrates the model in action and shows how smooth these model trains perform and this one handled the test train with no issues just fine. The motor is almost silent and the handling is smooth and stable thanks to the 5 pole motor and the flywheel drive to all driven wheels and the model train is all wheel drive. I would recommend getting one of these model trains if these locomotives would be of interest to you.
