BENEATH THE BRINE
From the world of the Iron Dominion.
The harvest does not end when the last crop leaves the field.
Across the high valleys, the season’s yield is gathered before the cold closes the roads. Vegetables are washed beneath mountain water, carried into the great preparation halls, and sorted by the hands of elves, dwarves, humans, and every household entrusted with the coming winter.
Far from the fields, salt is drawn from the coast and carried inland. Fires are kindled beneath the brining vessels. Barrels are filled, sealed, counted, and sent through the mountain roads toward the Dominion’s deepest storehouses.
What cannot be eaten today becomes a promise made to winter.
“Beneath the Brine” remembers the quiet labor that keeps a civilization alive: the harvesters, salt workers, fire keepers, barrel makers, wagon crews, and storehouse hands whose names seldom enter the histories of kings or battles.
Where “Autumn Waits Beyond the Fields” and “Autumn Wakes in the North” mark the gathering of the season’s final yield, this record preserves what comes afterward—the work that carries summer safely through the cold.
