SoMAS - Fire Island Breach from Hurricane Sandy 00003

SoMAS's Charlie Flagg captures video of the breaches on Fire Island as a result of Hurricane Sandy, courtesy of Pilot Rich Giannotti in his J3 Cub. In this video we are flying just offshore heading east. Most of the Fire Island beach appears in good shape although it is not clear if there has been a wholesale retreat. The deep channel is along the east side of the inlet and then the water appears to swing west between the new sand islands and Fire Island.
