In July 1924, five prospectors told newspapers that tall, hairy creatures had followed them near a mining claim on Mount St. Helens and bombarded their windowless log cabin with rocks. Fred Beck later claimed that one attacker reached through a gap in the wall and seized the handle of an axe before he pulled it back inside. Searchers reported rocks inside the cabin but no tracks nearby. Forest Service rangers publicly rejected the creature explanation and said human hands had thrown the stones. The men produced no body from the gorge where Beck claimed one creature fell. In 1967, Beck and his son Ronald published `I Fought the Apemen of Mount St. Helens, Washington`. The booklet said the public had misunderstood the attackers: Beck believed they were supernatural beings that could temporarily assume physical bodies. It also introduced clairvoyance, a guiding white arrow and other spiritual claims largely absent from the surviving 1924 coverage. This documentary-style story separates the miners' claims, contemporary press, the ranger response and Beck's much later interpretation. Archival-style illustrations are used for atmosphere and are not historical evidence. The record does not establish that Sasquatch attacked the cabin or that any paranormal explanation is true.
