Global National: Sept. 26, 2026 | New concerns over artificial intelligence as more agents go rogue

The call for greater checks on artificial intelligence are increasing globally as more reports surface of AI agents going rogue. This week, the founders of both OpenAI and Anthropic spoke about the potential risks of the technology, and how to mitigate them before the United Nations General Assembly. As Candice Cole reports, the comments from the tech leaders come as OpenAI disclosed its bots interacted with multiple U.S. government sites. The El Niño weather phenomenon has been churning up storms in the Pacific Ocean, generating more heat than usual. And even if storms don't make landfall, they do trigger ferocious systems that have caused damage along California's coastline. Heidi Petracek has more. Israeli strikes have killed around 1,400 people in Gaza since the ceasefire deal was struck almost a year ago. Thousands of others have been injured, and are still struggling to get proper medical treatment, despite the increased flow of aid in the past year. As Redmond Shannon reports, some pharmacists are improvising to help fill empty shelves. Allegations of U.S. interference are continuing to take up space on the Quebec election campaign. The Parti Quebecois is defending itself as the CAQ (Coalition Avenir Québec) says a referendum would benefit the Trump administration, by destabilizing Canada. Dan Spector reports. Plus, Canadians across the country took part in the annual Canadian Walk for Veterans, paying tribute to those who served. The event seeks to raise awareness and funds for programs that support Canada’s veterans and their families, including mental health resources and service animals.
