Angie Nixon discusses her U.S. senate bid, Israel and J.D. Vance’s remarks | Facing South Florida

In this week’s edition of Facing South Florida: CBS News Miami’s Jim DeFede talks with Angie Nixon, the Democrat running against the Republican incumbent Ashley Moody for U.S. Senate. It’s a race that was once thought to be an inevitable contest between retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman and Moody…until Nixon pulled off the biggest upset of the 2026 primary season by handily defeating Vindman. During their conversation, Nixon, a state representative for District 13 in North Florida, tackled a number of topics, weighed in on Vice-President J.D. Vance saying she should “get the hell out of America” for her political views. Nixon called the comments, made by the vice president during a visit to Florida, “disrespectful and disheartening.” “I don’t consider myself a socialist. I consider myself a lifelong Democrat who puts people over party, people over politics, and people over profit,” Nixon says. “All I want is for people to have access to quality health care, to have access to fully-funded public schools, for people to have homes to live in and not have to worry about living in the streets…there’s absolutely nothing radical or extreme about that.” DeFede also asks Nixon how she plans to convince Jewish Democrats to vote for her, given her outspoken views on Israel and criticizing the U.S. ally for its military actions in Gaza following the October 7th attacks. “I’ve been having conversations with members of the Jewish community [in Florida],” she says. “I want them to know that throughout my entire career, I’ve advocated to stomp out antisemitism, to stomp out any forms of bigotry. I want people to know there is a lot of disinformation that’s going on about me and what I’ve said. A lot of things people say I’ve said, I’ve never said.” Guest: Angie Nixon (D), U.S. Senate Nominee Facing South Florida airs Sunday at 8:30am on CBS Miami. #florida #news #AngieNixon #election #midtermelection #politics
