When a marriage ends, we expect to grieve the relationship. What we don't always anticipate is how many other relationships we might lose along the way. Divorce can mean losing more than a husband or wife. It can mean losing the extended family you've grown to love, friendships you've maintained for decades, familiar traditions, and the sense of belonging that came with being part of something larger. In this episode, I talk about some of the losses I experienced after my divorce, including relationships with family members I still care deeply about but rarely get to see anymore. There's a psychological term called *disenfranchised grief*. It describes grief that isn't fully recognized or supported by the people around us. And I think it helps explain why some of the losses that accompany divorce can be so difficult to talk about. We'll also explore what happens when mutual friends choose sides, family gatherings change, and parts of your old life quietly disappear. This isn't about assigning blame or dwelling on the past. It's about acknowledging that these relationships mattered, that losing them can hurt, and that grieving them is a legitimate part of moving forward. Brian Carey On Life is about relationships, personal growth, curiosity, and navigating life's changes, especially after 40. To become more interesting, you have to become more interested. *GET INTERESTED.* #LifeAfterDivorce #DivorceRecovery #BrianCareyOnLife
