In 1903, 13 Black men and their families fled the Jim Crow laws of the South and traveled to southern New Mexico. There, they established Blackdom, the state’s first and only all-Black town. A century later, two families return to the site to reclaim their ancestors’ land and restore the town's forgotten history.
HOMEGROWN is a regional short film initiative presented by Firelight Media. Its third season, "Horizons," is a collection of short films from the Rocky Mountain region. Each film represents a specific cultural community within the vast expanse of the Mountain West, exploring issues of sovereignty, belonging, and community ownership.
