Epic Universe Expansion CONFIRMED: Dark Universe Is Getting A New Ride

Okay so things just got very real for Dark Universe at Epic Universe. A wave of new permit activity has officially confirmed that the expansion pad behind the Universal Monsters land is getting a brand new ride. Like an actual ride. Not a show, not a theater. A ride with a maintenance bay and everything. The project is called Project 680 internally, and Orange County officials have now issued the first permit for site prep work. The building tied to this expansion is listed as Building 1570, which tells us exactly where this is going because Dark Universe is the only area of Epic Universe with building numbers in the 1500s. And 1570 doesn't exist yet at the park. The highest number currently is 1560 for Curse of the Werewolf. So this is genuinely new territory. The main structure is currently described as three stories and just over 93,000 square feet. That is a big building. But the detail that really has everyone talking is buried in the permit notes where county officials specifically ask about the ride maintenance bay on the first floor. That note is coming from documents Universal submitted themselves. So yes, a ride is happening here. Now, the long running rumor has been an indoor boat ride based on Creature from the Black Lagoon, and lately there's also been chatter about the Bride of Frankenstein being involved. Here's where the merch gets interesting though. Dark Universe has officially released merchandise with a comic book style design featuring both Gill-man and the Bride of Frankenstein together. And there's a number 3 in the corner of the design, which fans are reading as a hint that this could be the third attraction for the land. Universal hasn't said a word officially about any of this, but the permit with site work just got approved this week and is active through January 2027. So movement could be coming before the end of the year. And it's not just Dark Universe either. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter expansion at Epic Universe also has permits moving, with a two story structure described at nearly 96,000 square feet. Universal has actually teased that more is coming for the Potter land specifically. Rumors are saying both of these massive projects could be built at the same time.
