ROVOS RAIL WITH GRINDROD GL30SCC-AC LOCOMOTIVE

On the 4th of May 2026, the Cape Town bound Rovos Rail sported a hired Grindrod GL30SCC-AC locomotive (for back-up incase the Class 38s failed- which they did.) The lone EMD had to take charge near Leeu Gamka, some 355km from its destination. The 3000hp loco. made light work of the consist. The 2 class 38s were brought online in Bellville yard for the short run to Cape Town station.
