Practical Pharmacokinetics - Part Four: Bayesian Application

In Part 4 of this series on Practical Pharmacokinetics we will learn about the impact of pharmacodynamics on dosing vancomycin and aminoglycosides. We will compare the current methods of trough-only dosing with newer Bayesian and trapezoidal methods for calculating vancomycin doses.  Review the history of vancomycin.  Compare pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics.  Identify which antibiotics uses concentration-dependent, time-dependent, or time dependent persistence effects killing mechanisms.  Outline the 2009 and 2020 Vancomycin Consensus Guidelines and list their positives and negatives.  Define how Bayesian kinetic modeling works and state the pros and cons of using this type of predictive software.
