Catching Houdini | A Rookie Season Original | Maine Bear Trapping

Catching Houdini is our attempt to show the entire process of Maine bear hunting and trapping from beginning to end. This isn’t just the successful moments. We wanted to document everything that goes into the season — scouting locations, establishing bear bait sites, hauling bait, setting and preparing traps, checking cameras, reading bear behavior, and making adjustments when things don’t go according to plan. As the season progresses, the bears force us to adapt. Trail camera activity changes, bait gets hit differently than expected, and we make game-time tweaks to our setups based on what we're seeing in the woods. All of it eventually leads to one bear that proves especially difficult to catch: Houdini. From the first preparations to the final check, this Rookie Season Original follows the full process and all of the work, mistakes, adjustments, and lessons that come with trapping black bears in Maine.
