I'm the last fire lookout still posted in Montana — and every night, something keeps moving in the trees below my tower. The tower stands alone above miles of Montana backcountry. My job is simple: watch for smoke, log what I see, radio it in. For years it was just the wind, the pines, and the long quiet of the fire season. Then the movement started — low, slow, always below the deck, always after dark. Never close enough to name. Never far enough to ignore. I told myself it was elk. Then a bear. Then I stopped telling myself anything at all, and just started writing down when it came. This is a slow-burn, first-person survival story about isolation, the human mind under pressure, and the thin line between what's really out there and what a long stretch of solitude can make you believe. No cheap jump scares — just one man, one tower, and the growing certainty that he isn't watching the forest alone. Set in a remote fire lookout tower deep in the Montana wilderness, through one long fire season. Best experienced start to finish — headphones on, lights low. 00:00 — The last lookout in Montana 05:15 — A normal fire season 14:40 — The first night it moved 26:20 — Below the deck 37:10 — What the logbook started to show 48:30 — The night I stopped pretending 59:45 — What was really below the tower 1:08:00 — End If you were alone in that tower, would you have stayed to find out what it was — or climbed down and never looked back?
