The first episode of a new Carlson Guitars build series. This Harbinger will feature Wenge back and sides, an Adirondack spruce top, radial bracing, a Florentine cutaway, and possibly a new cantilevered neck design and damascus micarta I’ve been developing. In Part 1, I get the sides prepared and into the mold, make and fit the body blocks, and get the build well underway. Things don’t go entirely according to plan—but that’s part of building guitars, and part of what I want this series to show. Rather than turning this into a step-by-step tutorial, I want to bring you along for the entire build: the decisions, the process, the experimentation, and occasionally the mistakes. Part 2 will pick up right where this one leaves off.
