Yoooo Ethiopia family!! 🇪🇹❤️ Today I’m finally posting my reaction to Fikeraddis Nekatibeb - Zarem Atirsagn (ዛሬም አትርሳኝ) and bro… the thing I remember most clearly about this one is HER VOICE. There was something about her tone and the vocal techniques she was using that immediately felt really distinctive to me. I’ve heard a lot more Ethiopian music now, and I’m starting to recognise certain phrasing, ornamentation and vocal movements that feel very rooted in Ethiopian styles — and this track had that feeling all over it. Her voice had so much character and emotion, and I remember being completely locked in on the way she shaped the melodies. The song itself felt strong enough to carry the whole visual for me too. One thing I spoke about during the reaction was the use of the younger women featured throughout the music video. Obviously they were beautiful and added another visual element, but I genuinely found myself wondering whether they were actually necessary. Would the video have had the same reach without them? Would people have engaged with it just as strongly if the focus stayed completely on Fikeraddis, the song and her performance? Personally, I thought the track and her voice were more than strong enough to stand on their own, so I’d really like to hear what my Ethiopian Clouds think about that.
