What makes a city easy to disappear into — not literally, but socially?
In this video, I rank 7 major cities in Latin America based on how easy it is to live there without constantly feeling like “the foreigner.”
The ranking looks at four things: city size and density, how organized the foreign community is, how easily you visually blend in, and how much daily life requires you to identify yourself through local systems.
Some cities are great for expats because they have strong communities. But that same community can also make you much more visible.
Others are so large, diverse, and fragmented that you can simply become another person who lives there.
We rank:
Brasília
Rio de Janeiro
Santiago
Buenos Aires
Bogotá
Lima
São Paulo
And I also explain why there’s one city I chose not to rank at all.
This is not about hiding from authorities or becoming impossible to find. It’s about something much simpler: living abroad without feeling like a local event every time you walk out the door.
Which city do you think should have been #1?
