They end up using it for the airline. I compared the cruise lines' own protection plans (Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian, Princess, Disney, Holland America, MSC and Virgin Voyages) with two third-party policies, Allianz and Berkshire Hathaway. What gets claimed, what pays in cash versus a cruise credit, what the delay and bag benefits are, how far the medical and evacuation limits go, when Medicare stops at sea, whether any policy covers a skipped port, and why the day you pay your deposit matters.
