Level Crossing, Kembla Grange NSW, Australia.

The first activation is shown at 5:29 This is the West Dapto Road level crossing at Kembla Grange, which is located on the South Coast Line between Unanderra and Dapto. The original gate-less signals were installed here in 1962 and survived until December 11, 2004 when the current gates were installed. One strange feature of this crossing is the relay bungalow, which was built on a raised platform due to the risk of flooding in the area. Both signals have Western Cullen Hayes gate mechanisms and Alstom LED lights. In a rare move for NSW gated crossings, there is only one bell here, located on the eastern signal. First installed was a short-lived Westinghouse Hybrid Bell (thanks TrickyMario7654) which had been replaced prior to May 2008 by a Western Cullen Hayes mechanical bell. The m-bell survived until around 2015/16 when it was replaced by the current Western Cullen Hayes e-bell. The western signal has an adapter on top of the mast which would normally be used to mount a mechanical bell, however there has never been a bell here and it has a pole cap instead. There are also some interesting signs at this crossing. In addition to the old inverted "Stop On Red Signal" signs, there are yellow warning signs which show a cyclist falling off their bike, there must have been an accident which prompted the installation of these odd signs! At the end of the video there are some photographs of the original signals which I took in January 1997, which included a McKenzie & Holland teardrop bell on the eastern signal. The foundations of these signals can still be seen today! Train information: The first freight train is 9329 empty grain from Nowra to Cootamundra, with locomotives 8139, 8181 and 8132. The second freight train is 3938 flour from Narrandera to Nowra, with locomotives 8179 and 8171. Lastly, we see light engines 8116 and 8155 proceeding from Nowra to Inner Harbour as train number D138. Filmed on April 8, 2018.
