Only a handful of players earned the right to be called a Boston Celtics GOAT, and the full list may not be who you think. From Bill Russell’s 11 championships to Larry Bird’s three MVPs, we rank the 7 greatest players who ever wore the green and white. We also look at the legends the mainstream sports media keeps leaving out of the conversation. In this video we break down the careers, rings, stats, and legacies of the seven players who built the NBA’s most decorated franchise. These are Bill Russell, Larry Bird, John Havlicek, Bob Cousy, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Paul Pierce. We cover Russell’s defensive dominance and his dynasty of 11 NBA titles in 13 seasons. We cover Larry Bird’s three straight MVPs, his deadly shooting, and his rivalry with Magic Johnson and the Lakers. We also cover Havlicek’s “Havlicek stole the ball” moment and eight championships, and Cousy’s ball-handling and passing that changed the point guard position forever. We also look at the Big Three of McHale, Parish, and Bird, which many call the greatest frontcourt in NBA history. Then there is Paul Pierce, “The Truth,” who led the 2008 Celtics to Banner 17 alongside Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen. Along the way we mention Red Auerbach, Sam Jones, Tom Heinsohn, K.C. Jones, Dave Cowens, Cedric Maxwell, Dennis Johnson, Danny Ainge, Jo Jo White, Rajon Rondo, Isaiah Thomas, Jayson Tatum, and Jaylen Brown, and why they just miss the cut.
