We're modeling a 2x4 Lego brick TO SCALE. I've printed these on an Elegoo Mars and they work great (you only need to compensate for the shrinkage characteristics of the material you're printing with).
This tutorial is for beginners in Houdini. We're not doing anything fancy here; just comparing basic modeling and UI interaction between 3DS Max and Houdini. But we're actually building something rather than just pointing our cursor around the UI's. This hands-on project should help the information stick in our memories.
In Part 1: We work side-by-side in 3ds Max and Houdini to build the Lego brick and the studs on top. We'll notice that our workflows for this project are pretty similar between the two packages.
In Part 2: We build the inside of the Lego brick and finish up with beveling the edges of our objects. No problem!

More about the Max to Houdini Transition tutorials:
Our goal is to ease our transition into Houdini by starting with baby steps. As we build our confidence we will be ready to move onto more advanced topics. Many (maybe most) people fail to 'get' Houdini because they jump straight into destruction or pyro, only to give up in frustration.
Let's face it, Houdini is a bit bizarre. It's hard to understand many design choices. Basic viewport interactions can leave you confused or stumped. We need to slow down and move one step at a time to learn Houdini's unique language. You can't shred a guitar solo without first learning basic chords, right?
Let me know if there are other comparisons you'd like to see between Max and Houdini.
