Thank you for stopping by my channel - I hope you enjoy this video. Don't forget to give me a THUMBS UP and SUBSCRIBE if you'd like to see more! Thanks again for watching - leave me a comment before you go!
In this video I was experimenting with my cloud mix (recipe below). I've used it many times in various pours, but never in a swipe, so I thought I'd try that first. And since I had this handy piece of packing styrofoam nearby, I wanted to see how it would do as my swiper. It took me a couple of practice swipes to get the feel of it, but I was super happy with the results. But it didn't feel complete. So I decided to dip the cloud mix with the skinny side of the styrofoam, and then a plastic lid and a plastic bowl for some straight lines and circles.
The swipes were great, but I'm super intrigued by the dipped sections. The cloud mix really created a cool effect there... I'm definitely going to try that again. I hope you enjoyed watching this as much as I enjoyed doing it!
All of my paints in this video (except the cloud mix) are mixed 2 parts pouring medium to 1 part paint and 1 part distilled water.
My pouring medium is 60% Floetrol and 40% gloss varnish.
Cloud Mix Recipe:
1 part DecoArt Satin Enamels (white)
1 part Amsterdam Titanium White
4 parts pouring medium
2 parts distilled water
Keys to Success with the Cloud Dip and Swipe:
1. Consistency of your paints should be thin - it should not leave a mound or a trace when drizzled off of your stir stick.
2. Blow or tilt off as much of your base coat as possible to avoid cracking when drying.
3. No matter what you swipe with, use as little downward pressure as possible. I think of it as floating rather than dragging.
4. If you think you're swiping too slow - slow down more! LOL
5. Don't be afraid to swipe more than once.
6. Dipping with a flat straight edge gives a 3D effect
7. Dipping with a round object clouds up more if you twist it a bit
