What’s the Difference Between LXD and Instructional Design?

You've probably heard the letters "LXD" floating around in the instructional design space. But what exactly does "Learning Experience Design" mean, and how does it different from regular ID work? In this 3-part series, we'll walk over some fundamentals about the paradigm shift that's happening in the L&D and training field. Here's the breakdown of content, which will be released over the next handful of weeks. Part 1: ID to LXD - What's the difference between these titles and approaches to learning design? Part 2: LXD and Learner Personas - How can creating learner personas help you design more effective experiences? Part 3: Personas Deep-Dive - What information should you include in your personas, and why does it matter? This video was originally recorded as part of a webinar, so there's some user engagement. However, as an LXD (who prides myself in the creation of new, innovative content), I've layered the original video with some fresh new visuals to really drive this story home. Really want to reiterate that this is merely my lived experience! Many other LXDs may have a different perspective of what the differences are, and that's just peachy. The most important takeaway, at least in the Kaborzi book: "LXD" is not merely a rebrand from Instructional Design. Just because you craft storyboards for companies does NOT mean you can design effective experiences for learners. It's a true Jack/Jane of all Trades kind of profession. We wear LOTS of hats!
