Hey guys! We’re now live on Spotify 🎧 https://open.spotify.com/show/033KQbE... Thank you so much for your support! ❤️ your support means the world. https://buymeacoffee.com/hollows Some Japanese towns are so far up into the mountains that the outside world arrives late, or never arrives at all. A national highway that was never finished and simply stops. A prefectural border you can only cross on foot. A village that has held a memorial siren at 8:45 every year since 1984, for fifteen people who were never dug out. This is a countdown of thirteen isolated mountain settlements in Japan, and what their isolation actually cost. An avalanche that threw a workers' dormitory two thousand feet across a gorge with the men still inside. A village that walked nine hundred miles to Hokkaido rather than rebuild. A hamlet that survived a dam and became unreachable anyway. A valley where three villages starved to nobody, and the only surviving record is a conversation from 1828. Every location here is documented, with sources listed below. Where something is village tradition rather than record, I say so out loud in the video. If you want more of this kind of hidden Japan, subscribe, and tap like if the video was worth your time. Sources Shiaidani avalanche 1938 | Japanese Wikipedia, citing Low Temperature Science Ser.
