Dog socialization assessment - Brian (leash reactivity)

Day 1 of Brian’s day train program. He’s here for separation anxiety, leash, reactivity, and improving his grooming and handling skills. This is the typical process I take when I bring a new dog into the home to introduce them to the other dogs. It’s always better to go slower than you think you need to. I like to start with baby gates and just see how they respond. Next, I like to do leash work and see how easy it is to redirect them away from another dog. Then I’ll go on a parallel walk with a neutral dog who I trust. After all of that, they finally get time off leash to just be dogs around each other. I always keep leashes on dogs I’m still getting to know. The last and arguably most important step is settling around each other. I didn’t include clips in this video, but we spent about two hours with each dog in their specified resting place in the same room. This will ensure neutrality around other dogs and completely change the way a reactive dog sees another dog.
