ചെന്നൈ മെട്രോയുടെ രണ്ടാം ഘട്ടത്തില്‍ ഉള്‍പ്പെടുന്ന പൂനമല്ലി-വടപളനി പാത പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നരേന്ദ്ര മോദി ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. തമിഴ്നാട്ടില്‍ പതിമൂവായിരം കോടിയിലധികം രൂപയുടെ വിവിധ വികസന പദ്ധതികളുടെ ഉദ്ഘാടനവും തറക്കല്ലിടലും പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി നിര്‍വഹിക്കും. ഗതാഗതം, ദേശീയപാത, റെയില്‍വേ, തുറമുഖം, പെട്രോളിയം, വിദ്യാഭ്യാസം, ശാസ്ത്രഗവേഷണം തുടങ്ങിയ മേഖലകളിലെ പദ്ധതികളാണ് സന്ദര്‍ശനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി നടപ്പാക്കുന്നത്. രാവിലെ ചെന്നൈ വിമാനത്താവളത്തിലെത്തിയ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിയെ മുഖ്യമന്ത്രി വിജയ് സ്വീകരിച്ചു. തുടര്‍ന്ന് ഇരുവരും മെട്രോ ഉദ്ഘാടന പരിപാടിക്കായി യാത്ര തിരിച്ചു. ഉദ്ഘാടനത്തിനശേഷം പൊരൂര്‍ ബൈപാസ് നിലയത്തില്‍നിന്ന് പൂനമല്ലി ബൈപാസ് നിലയത്തിലേക്ക് പ്രധാനമന്ത്രി മെട്രോയില്‍ യാത്ര നടത്തും. മുഖ്യമന്ത്രിയും അദ്ദേഹത്തോടൊപ്പം യാത്രയില്‍ പങ്കെടുക്കും. ചെന്നൈ മെട്രോയുടെ രണ്ടാം ഘട്ടത്തിലെ പ്രധാന പദ്ധതികളിലൊന്നാണ് പൂനമല്ലി-വടപളനി പാത. ഏകദേശം നാലായിരത്തി തൊള്ളായിരം കോടി രൂപ ചെലവിലാണ് പാത നിര്‍മിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നത്. മൂന്നായിരത്തി എഴുന്നൂറ് മീറ്റര്‍ നീളമുള്ള ഇരട്ടത്തട്ടു പാതയും ഇതിന്റെ സവിശേഷതയാണ്. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Poonamallee–Vadapalani corridor, part of Phase II of the Chennai Metro. The Prime Minister will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for various development projects worth over ₹13,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. The projects cover several sectors, including transport, national highways, railways, ports, petroleum, education and scientific research. Chief Minister Vijay received the Prime Minister upon his arrival at Chennai airport in the morning. The two leaders then proceeded to the metro inauguration ceremony. Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister will travel by metro from Porur Bypass station to Poonamallee Bypass station. The Chief Minister will accompany him on the journey. The Poonamallee–Vadapalani corridor is one of the key projects under Phase II of the Chennai Metro. The corridor has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹4,900 crore. A 3,700-metre-long double-deck corridor is one of its distinctive features.
