The Powell-Mason line is the oldest continuously operating cable car line in San Francisco, running along the same route and terminals since it opened on August 2, 1888. While Andrew Hallidie's historic Clay Street Hill Railroad (opened in 1873) was the world's first, it no longer exists, making California Street (1878) and Powell-Mason the oldest surviving operational routes.
On the iconic Powell-Hyde line, the right side offers the best views when heading north toward Fisherman's Wharf, framing Alcatraz and the bay. If you head south back toward downtown, the left side faces the water.
I used Suno to create this traditional crooner style, blending traditional jazz, swing, big band standards, and classic pop. Is it sung by me..... you have to guess!
