This story was shared by Tarita Aitkinson at Backyard Truth-Telling Series in Walyalup/Fremantle in 2026. Here, Tarita shares a story about her childhood at Mogumber Mission, which she remembers as fun and carefree, and the gradual realisation that others who shared that time and place carried profoundly different memories and experiences. All copyright of the story belongs to the storyteller and has been licensed to Centre for Stories. This project was funded by Lotterywest & City of Fremantle.
