New Comic Book Day Deep Dive | Batman Bad Seeds, Rogue One & Essex County Review!

This week's New Comic Book Day Deep Dive is a smaller stack, but Gotham City dominates the pull list. I've also got some Star Wars, Star Trek, fantasy, a classic Batman facsimile, and a quick review of Jeff Lemire's Essex County. The Batman: Bad Seeds event continues with Gotham Central #2 and Streets of Gotham #1. I'm also picking up Batman & Robin: Year One – Dynamic Duos #3, Clayface: Celebrity Dirt #4, and the Batman #227 Facsimile Edition, featuring that classic Neal Adams cover. Outside Gotham, Star Wars: Rogue One – Chirrut & Baze #1 takes us back to the Rogue One era, while Star Trek: Red Shirts – Ghost of the 21st Century #3 continues its run. Fire & Ice: Darkwolf #4 is also in the stack, along with the Dungeon Crawler Carl Vol. 1 graphic novel featuring the Yoshi Yoshitani direct market exclusive cover. I'm also taking a few minutes to review Essex County by Jeff Lemire. I really enjoyed this poignant story about relationships and the connections between people. I think it works particularly well as a collected edition, allowing the interconnected stories to come together in a way that might be less apparent when reading them separately. A smaller NCBD week, but there's plenty to discuss, from Batman's ongoing troubles in Gotham to a graphic novel that reminded me how powerful the medium can be.
