𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗦𝗜𝗔𝗡𝗚, 𝗦𝗔𝗩𝗘 𝗜𝗡𝗗𝗜𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗦 𝗥𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦: 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗲𝗻-𝗭 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘁 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗮𝘁 In a major display of indigenous youth solidarity and grassroots activism, local youth groups and Gen-Z representatives organized a consultative meeting in Pasighat. Gathering under the banner of "Save Siang, Save Indigenous Rights," the assembly voiced fierce resistance to proposed mega-dam projects and industrial encroachments threatening the Siang River basin. Key Highlights & Demands • Zero Talks with Government: Demonstrators affirmed a strict stance against engaging in conditional dialogues or piecemeal negotiations with state or central authorities until a concrete, permanent solution is presented. • Direct Action & Youth Power: Speeches by student leaders and youth activists emphasized mobilizing "Indigenous Youth Power" to protect ancestral lands, river ecosystems, and community rights from ecological disruption. • Rejection of Top-Down Consultation: Organizers criticized existing official consultative mechanisms as superficial, calling instead for direct public referendums and community-driven decision-making. "Our land, water, and identity are non-negotiable. Until our indigenous rights are fully recognized and guaranteed, there will be no compromise or backroom negotiations." The gathering concluded with a unanimous call to maintain grassroots unity across districts in the Siang region and to expand public awareness campaigns against developmental initiatives that bypass tribal consent.
